Rings and things

Yesterday we spent the day driving all over the place, spending most of the time in the City of Industry area. First stop was Fry’s to drool look at things we cannot yet buy. I browsed the graphic tablets while he looked at motherboards and laptops. While walking around the store one thing did surprise me. In the magazine racks, there was one area devoted to adult mags….Playboy, Penthouse, College Girls, etc! :-O Granted, they were all in plastic bags and all the sketchy areas were covered with messages and such, but they were still out in the open for anyone to grab. You’ve got to wonder how many they sell…must be quite a bit considering the assortment. A geek’s gotta do what a geek’s gotta do? They also had a large supply of the Playboy computer game. Oy. No Playgirl magazines though. I guess the girl geeks are left to their own devices. :-P

The other main stop was to a jewelry store across the ways from the Puente Hills mall. Jason’s insurance agent’s wife works there and she was going to help us look at some things. (Once again, drooling at things we cannot just yet buy!) It was a strike of coincidence that they were located in the same strip mall that I go to a lot. I joked in the car how funny it would be if the store was there, but not seriously thinking it would be. Sure enough, it was just a few stores down from the Michaels I go to from time to time. Who would have guessed? Took a look at the rings she had as well as the loose diamonds she had that she could put into a Tiffany setting. Trying the rings on was a nice daydreaming moment. LOL Now Jason has the fun job on deciding on what we saw there and elsewhere and when. I keep telling him that I will love whatever he decides on. I’m a simple kind of girl. Just nothing out of a Cracker Jack box please. ;) The bad thing about trying on rings is knowing but not knowing when. Hopefully I will not drive him and myself up the wall. Heh. I didn’t leave empty handed however. I bought myself a pair of gold stud earrings. I lost one of mine awhile back ago and the fashion earrings in the mall don’t do too well on me if I wear it long term. The hole in my right ear was starting to close again and I wasn’t about to go and get it pierced for the THIRD time!

Last stop in the area was Friscos, a 50s style diner. Had ourselves a yummy lunch while we waited for an accident on the freeway to clear. Jason got to drool look at the pretty waitresses rollerskating about in super short fluffy skirts. (Allowed to look but definitely not buy or touch!) They need some male waiters up in that place. Rollerskating around in some tight jeans and a tight white t-shirt. The women need something to look at too. :-P I think I was one of TWO women eating there. Everyone else eating there were men! I was expecting that though, that was how it was all the other times I’ve gone. Once again…tight jeans. Tight white t-shirts. Throw us a bone!

Happy New Year!

It is the Lunar New Year today! Last night my sister, brother, and his wife came over to the folks and we had ourselves a yummy feast. Lobster, crab, noodles, sharkfin soup, veggies, egg rolls, and fried shrimp. Mmm. And there is also the daikon cake that we didn’t even touch. I keep having to stop myself from picking at the leftovers today so that I can bring back what is left for Jason. :-P

Speaking of whom, it was very nice of my mother to be asking about him. She asked if he was working yesterday and that if he had lived closer she would have invited him to the dinner as well. That was very sweet of her and caught me off guard. It’s not typical of her to invite the SO unless you’re already married. I think she is warming up to Jason though. Christmas must have played a big part in that. :) One, she loved loved the juicer we got her and was pleasantly surprised that he helped with it. I think it was her favorite present. ;-) And two, I think she likes that he loves her cooking. We had Vietnamese bun nuoc leo which can be a bit offputting for people because of the smell from the fermented fish. None of the in-laws would touch it. Granted two of them are not Asian, but one is Chinese! Jason dove right in though and loved it. Shocked my mom, I think. Hehe.

The new year festivities have slowly died down from past years, mainly because no one is home anymore. I remember how we used to all go visit relatives as a family and would have fun chit chatting with the cousins. And how our relatives would come over to our house as well. We’re all grown up now and all that happens anymore is my folks taking the car to visit people alone. Me, today I am sitting here at home alone tinkering on the computer trying to find some way of resolving the issues on Jason’s laptop. (Anyone know why it would shut down on standby and reboots on resume instead of suspending like it should?) Fun stuff…wheee!

Wishing everyone a happy new year! :)

Here comes the parade

…and I’m not there! :-( Mardi Gras time in the Big Easy and I’m not there this time around. I was a bit sulky this morning about it so Jason promised we’d have our own little party. Bring on the hurricanes…I’ve already bough the rum! :-) I miss the city, but most of all I wish I could be there to spend time with my friends…those that are travelling and those that live there. I don’t get to see them enough, but when we do good times are guaranteed. Drunken phone calls will have to suffice this year!

The thing that has kept me from being too depressed is that I’m taking a mini trip to Vegas in TWO weeks to see, who else, Harry Connick Jr. :-P Certainly not too shabby of a consolation prize. We were already planning on going to Vegas, so it was good timing on Harry’s part. It will also be lots of fun to check Vegas out. It’s only a 4 hour drive away and I’ve only gone twice in my life. Once with my folks (<sarcasm>the BEST way to experience Vegas</sarcasm>) and the other time for a conference. Loads of fun eh? Although I did get to see Penn and Teller the second time around and that was a great show! Beats David Copperfield any day. Don’t know if we’ll do anything else other than the concert, but it will be nice just to go somewhere with Jason. It will be our first road trip together. :-)
