Thanks everyone for your concerns. My follow up with the doctor went as well as it could. All the lab work came back without any concerns. No signs of arthritis, thyroid problems, or anemia. Triglycerides looked great. My glucose was a tinge above normal, but nothing to be concerned about and would surely go down if I watched my carbs and got things going with my personal trainer.
The only thing was that my blood pressure was on the high side. 150 over 90 this time. Good grief! So I’m on this water pill now that should get rid of any extra water in my system and bring it down. Took one dose yesterday and they aren’t kidding around with the side effects. Woke up twice in the middle of the night and woke up 3 lbs less of water. :-O Made me dizzy all day today though. And I get to stay on this for five months! I suppose I can’t complain, it is better than being put on meds for high blood pressure.
On a different note, I can’t believe our one year anniversary is coming up so soon!!!!
I wanted to blog last week about China, really I did! Unfortunately I’ve had a bit of some health issues. I woke up last Monday morning with pain in both of my hands. With rest, the pain went away and I made an appointment for this week for a physical and to get it checked out should it continue. Went to work the day after just fine, but as the afternoon came to a close, the pain came back. In my joints, wrists, and arms. Jason also said that my arm looked a bit swollen.
I squeezed an appointment last Wednesday with the doctor and things are looking abnormal and not good. My blood pressure was high…130 over 100! It has always been spot on normal. My hands and arms have signs of swelling and slightly so in my legs. I am hoping the swelling and pain caused the spike in my blood pressure. So lots of blood drawn the next day for lab work from arthritis to hypertension to thyroid problems and everything else in between.
As of today, I feel pretty much normal again. The pain has gone away for the most part other than the usual twinge here and there from working on the computer all day. I just hope that my blood pressure has gone back down. I tried to use one of those free monitors at Rite Aid but the constriction was beyond insane. I see the doc again tomorrow for my physical and lab results. Here’s hoping that everything checks out okay!
We are finally back from China. We got back on Tuesday night but it’s still rough trying to overcome the jet lag and time shift. We slept most of Wednesday and most of the weekend and I’m still not back to normal. This week is going to be ROUGH! I hope to finally get around to posting about our trip and the photos we took this week. Jason has been blogging quite a bit of it already on his blog on myspace.
Before leaving for China, I had this crazy idea to go see Wicked while it was at The Pantages. Ticketmaster had a promo going on for half off orchestra seats for weeknight shows during February. The crazy part was that I thought catching it the Friday we came back would be a splendid idea. Friday at work was rough, I could barely keep my eyes open, but when it came time to drive out to the show, I was starting to wake up a bit again. So I hightailed it from work in the OC to get back to Riverside to pick up hubby dearest and then out to the SG Valley to pick up my best pal and then out in LA traffic hoping the partial street closure for the Oscars wouldn’t make us late. We parked and arrived with little over an hour to spare.
The musical? Absolutely fantastic!!!! I had hoped to have read the book before going…I even brought it with me on my trip with the best of intentions but never got to it. No matter. It was a very well done show. We sat in the very very last row of the orchestra level, but being the Pantages, it was still a great seat. Megan Hilty was wonderful as Glinda. Glinda reminds me a bit of Karen from Will and Grace. Elphaba that night was played by understudy Teal Wicks and she was sooo good! Very powerful voice. Kristoffer Cusick as Fiyero was very good too. I did very well to resist most of the merch out in the lobby, but I did pick up Cusick’s debut CD.
Now I must get through the book, but first I must get through this jet lag!
China is getting close close close. I was supposed to pack today but got caught up with watching Super Bowl commercials (is it me or were most of them disappointing this year?) and eating yummy hot wings and other things, that I completely lost track of time. I will have to pack a little bit each day if I’m gonna be ready for our 10 day trip!
Wouldn’t you know it, that the worst winter storm in decades has hit southern China this past week. Millions of workers stranded as they were trying to get home for Lunar New Year. The different news reports we read spoke of Guangzhou which is where we fly into. Worried naturally. The many that are stranded are at train stations, but quite a lot at airports too. We won’t be taking the trains, but there is a flight or two that we will need to take locally while over there. My mom doesn’t seem too worried about it. Said that my dad has a friend that lives out there and that things are fine. If no one hears from me in a few weeks, someone please come to China and look for me!!
How about the game today? Neither me and Jason are football fans but we each decided to pick a team to root for. Not knowing a thing, I said I’ll pick the Giants. Then he told me that the Patriots were undefeated the whole season. Not anymore!!! How sad was that? To go undefeated all season only to be beaten at THE game of the year. I should have made a bet. Would have won big. Hehehe.
I never got around to writing about my holidays. I guess that happens when you start a new position at work and time escapes you. Needless to say, one of the highlights of holidays was my bestest spoiling me like crazy for Christmas and my birthday. Five Wii games, two DS games, and a very cute small Coach handbag. Don’t you wish you had a friend like mine?
Work has been going well. The new position has been a big change of pace for me. It certainly keeps me on my toes. That is all I will say about that because I don’t want to bore anyone.
China is next week!!! And I finally know where I am going! We’ll be visiting Southern China..mainly Guangzhou, Guilin, Sanya, Xinglong, and Haikou. It will be a crisp 48-60 degrees, so the weather will not be too bad at all. I really hope to put my Canon Powershot to the test, especially the manual mode and see how I do with everything we’ll be checking out. I dream of a DSLR, but I can’t justify it to myself unless I can figure out what my dinky point and shoot can do first. We’ll be going into a multi-colored lit cave, a rain forest, a river cruise, a wild animal park, and a few other places. Bound to be lots of things to shoot.
My DSLR will also have to wait because I’m about to commit myself to hiring a personal trainer at our local gym. There is this one gal who is a master trainer and seems to know her stuff very well. We’ve kept an eye on her ever since we started going to that gym because at that time she was training a VERY fit guy. So obviously she knew what she was doing! I’ll be signing up for at least 10 sessions with her for now and am going to start at the end of February or early March. Here goes nothing! Perhaps with her help, at some point I’ll be able to fit into (and look good in) this item that Jason got me. There’s not a lot there, but I think it’s a dress? Silly boys. LOL
Working on my post holiday entry, but got sidetracked last week as things got a little…well, very busy for me. I didn’t mention this in my last blog, but the same week that Angela decided to leave (boooooooo), a customer support supervisor position also opened up within the office. As usual, I applied. Persistence at some point must surely prevail? And last Tuesday I was told I was going to move up one rung on the proverbial corporate ladder.
This week I start my training, but last week I did some training of my own to pass on everything I knew to the person that was taking over. She must hate me for spewing all that new info on her, but I know she’ll do great. Utter craziness.
To start things off on the right foot, we went clothes shopping this weekend. Goodbye jeans and flip flops. I will miss you dearly. *sniff* Jason had a ball picking stuff for me to wear because he always thought I should have dressed up from the start. The damage? $250 and some change. It will be awhile before I visit the mall again!
If this week doesn’t kill me, perhaps I’ll be able to finish my other few posts that are not quite complete.
..to all our company. A-N-G …gee, do you have to go? E-L-A …a wish for all the best for you! I still need to write about my holidays, but I had to get this one out before I forget. My co-worker and dearest friend Angela is leaving! She’ll be just down the street, but who am I going to go on breaks with!?! I shall miss her company, but I really am happy for her because she’s getting into something that she truly loves.
I can still remember the first time I met her. It was before I was put in the same department that she was in. It was my first week of work and I was still in training. I did not know a soul other than the few people in my training group. One day I was taking my morning break in the lunch room and she comes in with Shirley Tipsy all happy and laughing. They were trying to get the vending machine to work. Shirley wanted something in there and I think it was either the last one, or right behind one other item. Then the stupid machine did something screwy with the money (as always) and I can remember them trying to jab the money slot with a plastic fork or knife. LOL I wasn’t sure about this place until that moment. Then I figured this place ought to have some amount of fun if these girls were here.
It’s been well over two years and a lot of fun times and chit chats have been had. You’re my break buddy (only two left!), pho buddy…just my plain buddy. I’m going to hold your Cooking Mama hostage to ensure we still have lunch from time to time! Grassy ass for the friendship, you’ll be missed around the office, but you know I will still be buggin you!
I’m at work right now on Christmas Eve just itching for the clock to hit 4 already! Most people either requested the day off or had chosen to leave early when it was apparent that today was a very VERY light day. There’s just a few of us stragglers left….less than 10, I think. As much as I wished that I could have left early, I need to keep my vacation hours for my trip in February to China. There’s no shortage of work in my department, so I was able to keep relatively busy, but things just felt like they were dragging when it is so quiet in the office!
Ahhhhhhhhh…just 10 more minutes and I can drive home and make a cup of hot chocolate and stick one of these amazing peppermint marshmallows in the cup. I never realized just how easy marshmallows were to make. I thought they would be difficult since everyone charges an arm and a leg for these “gourmet” versions. Soooo easy! I recommend anyone with a sweet tooth to try it at home. You will never look at store bought marshmallows the same again.
